I started working for Essex Police in the Force Control Room since January 2018 then I started my training to be an officer in July 2019.
What did you do before the police?
Before joining Essex police I was a car salesman.
Why did you join Essex Police?
I joined Essex Police as I genuinely wanted to make a difference to the lives of people affected by crime. You always see bad things in the news and think ‘that’s awful’ but I wanted to actually do something about it, I wanted to help.
Which area of the county are you going to be serving?
I will be serving in Grays which will be interesting as we’ll be working on the borders of London.
What have you enjoyed about your training?
I have enjoyed all aspects of the training so far but the part that stands out for me is bonding with your classmates. It’s like joining a big family, everyone has the same motivations and are happy to help each other.
What’s been your most memorable moment?
The whole time at college has been memorable – I don’t think I can pinpoint one moment.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of becoming a police officer?
I would say to anyone thinking of becoming a police officer to just do it! I made excuses for years such as ‘I won’t be able to pass the exams’, ‘I’m overweight’ or ‘I’ll struggle with the learning’ but they are just that, excuses. I stopped with the excuses and believed in myself. I can honestly say you will not regret joining up for whatever your reasons I can think of no job more rewarding.
