Before joining the police I worked in a retail department store but I was also a Special Constable based at Grays police station.
Why did you join Essex Police?
While I enjoyed working in retail, I felt as though I needed to do something more challenging so I joined the Special Constabulary. I thoroughly enjoyed being a Special for the fact that every day was different. The amount of support I got from the officers and staff based at Grays police station was amazing and it made me feel part of the team so I decided that I wanted to be a police officer full time.
Which area of the county are you going to be serving?
I will be working at South Ockendon police station as a part of the Community Policing Team. I am thoroughly looking forward to working with people that helped me get to where I am now.
What have you enjoyed about your training?
I have enjoyed meeting new people from different backgrounds. The support I have received at training college has played a big part in helping me through my journey so far. I have also enjoyed the practical side of training as well as the defensive skills part.
What’s been your most memorable moment?
The most memorable moment for me would have to be defensive skills week where we got to learn important techniques for keeping us safe on the streets. It’s really reassuring to know the force puts our safety and welfare first.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of becoming a police officer?
The only advice I could give is to take the plunge, I contemplated joining for more than a year and wished I had done it sooner! I was worried but I now feel as though every day I am being challenged and I have made so many friends since joining.
