Main purpose of the role

Perform the role of MARAC Officer supporting the Essex Police MARAC function. Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARACs) are regular local meetings where information about high risk domestic abuse victims (those at risk of murder or serious harm) is shared between local agencies.

The aim of the MARAC: Share information to increase the safety, health and well-being of victims, including adults and their children; Determine the level of risk that the perpetrator poses to the victim and associated children, and whether there is any risk to the general public; Construct and implement a risk management plan that provides professional support to all those at risk and that aims to reduce the future risk of harm; Reduce repeat victimisation; Improve agency accountability; Improve support for staff involved in high risk domestic abuse cases; Contribute to the development of best practice; Identify policy issues arising from cases discussed at the MARACs and raise these through the appropriate channels.

Main responsibilities

The role of MARAC Officer is to offer safeguarding, support and advice to victims and refer them to specialist services in their area. The MARAC Team work alongside the members of MASST who are made up of a number of partner agencies.

Necessary experience

Role based at Essex County Council Offices, Chelmsford.

Members of the MASST team have excellent knowledge of the criminal justice system and a wealth of experience working with victims with complex needs and those who present as hostile to police This post is deemed to be a designated post. Vetting clearance is a pre-requisite of employment in designated posts and the post holder will be subject to management vetting assessment every 7 years. National security vetting clearances are reviewed every 10 years.

Management of Police Information (MOPI) (Level 4)

Full compliance with Level 3. Has successfully completed all standard relevant Information Management and Security training package(s). Accurate use of Government Security Classification (GSC). Ensures physical and digital records are stored with appropriate security relevant to the sensitivity of the documents and has working understanding of appropriate National Retention Schedules. Is able to quality assure own records management processes as well as those of any staff for whom they have supervisory responsibility. Is aware of where to seek further support in relation to Records management within force when necessary.
