Sharon works in our Resolution Centre as an investigator. Her role is to help our communities and those who have been victims of crimes such as theft, criminal damage, burglary and racial hate. She investigates incidents, puts tougher crime reports and works with police officers to make sure their reports are up to standard.
"I really enjoy talking to the public. I’m a people person so I love taking calls.”
I work in the Resolution Centre where we answer 101 calls, conduct searches and investigations and file crime reports for the public.
We also deal with Police Officers’ reports, ensuring they’re high quality and classified. There is also a lot of back-office work to do, to keep things ticking over.
Ultimately, we are working to resolve crimes like theft, criminal damage, burglary and racial hate.
We are open 24/7, so I do shift work. It is a challenging job because I have to retain a lot of information, but it is incredibly rewarding.
My job changes day to day, so it is impossible to get bored. One day I might be answering calls from the public, on another I’ll be speaking to officers or filing reports. There’s a task to suit every mood! I love the variety of my job.
I also really enjoy talking to the public. Some of my colleagues prefer putting together the reports, but I’m a people person so I love taking calls.
As someone who is mixed race, diversity is really close to my heart. Before I joined Essex Police, I worked at the Metropolitan Police as a trainer in Diversity, Equality and Inclusion for many years.
I have been working for 44 years and although I think we’ve still got a way to go, it has been amazing to see the change in attitudes and opinions over time.
If you want something easy, then it’s not for you. But if you want a challenge that’s rewarding and makes you feel good at the end of the day, get applying.
We have such a wide range of people with different backgrounds, beliefs and characteristics working in the Resolution Centre, so if you’re worried you wouldn’t be the right fit, don’t!
