"I always like to watch documentaries and programmes about policing.
"I like the way you can see officers working together to solve a case and help people, and of course things like helicopter chases make great TV viewing.
"Now I get to experience this myself (the helping part), I always finish a shift feeling good, knowing I have made a difference.
"Outside of being a Special with Essex Police I work at a charity that aims to improve literacy in primary schools.
"By helping schools to teach literacy more effectively and make it more reading more engaging."

"I enjoy working alongside the community and helping to support the people within it."
"I didn’t really face any barriers when joining Essex Police, everyone was very helpful and welcoming."
"I think it’s important that Essex Police values differences because everyone has a different but equally valid viewpoint.
"People’s experiences and background shape their view and by treating them all fairly and with respect we bring more varied skills and ideas into the force, which will ultimately help the communities of Essex."
"I have been really supported in my role both inside and outside of work and feel like my colleagues are always trying to help me develop.
"My management team have been great, and with their support, I have been able to go from being a Special Constable to Special Sergeant."
"As a Special Sergeant, I am able be involved in all kinds of policing duties.
"I have been involved in many different operations from Knife Arch deployments in shopping centres, traffic operations targeting dangerous drivers, to supporting paramedic colleagues during the 2019 Remembrance Day parade."
"If being a Special is something you have been thinking about then I would say just do.
"It is exciting, varied and 100% satisfying."
