Main purpose of the role:
To brief, task and deploy section in line with current operational priorities and operational policing strategy. Manage and co-ordinate resources.
Supervise team of Police Officers and Police Staff who are on duty during your duty time.
Oversee the Policing response to incidents and ensure the appropriate resources are deployed.
Monitor the incidents and check that the incidents are updated thoroughly and are closed correctly.
Consider and decide upon all requests for resources from FCR for Airport staff to be used to attend incidents occurring outside the Airport SVA.
Direct Police armed patrols and ensure highly visible Policing patrols are carried out in response to intelligence or high risk flights.
Liaise with Partner agencies including the Airport Operator to resolve incidents.
Deploy armed Officers at road checks and vehicle checks to display a Policing deterrent to provide reassurance to travellers and to deter acts of terrorism.
Maintain AFO and OFC status by attending training and refresher courses to meet National and Force requirements.
Remain up to date with Force Orders , Policies and procedures.

To work shift system comprising early days, late turns and nights. Must hold Authorised Firearms Officer Permit. This is a uniformed post. Post is based at Stansted Airport Division but may be required to travel countywide. Working from an office based in Enterprise House, Stansted Airport.
This post is deemed to be a designated post.
Vetting clearance is a pre-requisite of employment in designated posts and the post holder will be subject to management vetting assessment every 7 years. National security vetting clearances are reviewed every 10 years.

Up to date knowledge of current political situation in relation to terrorism. Demonstrates an understanding of the Security Alert Status Levels and relevant policies and procedures. Analyses information submitted and/or makes decisions regarding the next course of action. If further research is necessary, undertakes that task or delegates to another officer. Able to put together basic information packages for other departments based on the information obtained.
Control - Gold/Silver/Bronze (Level 3)
Effectively manage the operational response to a pre-planned or emerging incident, identifying and taking appropriate actions in response to the developing situation, updating relevant personnel and ensuring the welfare of those involved. Example: Ensure a clear understanding of your area of responsibility and obtain all available information relating to the incident. Fully brief officers under your command. Ensure that all activity in your area of responsibility takes account of the policing objectives for the incident Implement tactics sensitively, taking into account the impact on the community and individuals affected by the incident. Respond appropriately to the developing situation, implementing actions required. Identify appropriate actions when these have not been specified. Keep the Silver Commander updated, and Liaise with other Bronze Commanders as required. Liaise closely with other emergency services, as required, during the incident. Record all relevant activity and decisions to ensure a clear a dit trail, using the appropriate documentation. Protect the health and safety of all persons present, where possible. Ensure the welfare of officers throughout the operation and provide access to post-operation support as required. Debrief officers within your area of responsibility as they leave the policing. of the incident. Pass information received to the Silver Commander.
Crime Investigation (Level 3)
Able to identify offences and offenders. Able to conduct street identifications Completes routine interviews to determine and establish events and identify potential witnesses. Plans and prepares further actions. Has an awareness of other agencies and the assistance they can give in providing information and/or assistance with the investigation. Collates all relevant information into appropriate written form, providing reports of a sufficient clarity and quality to enable the evidence contained to be used to further the investigation. Able to gather or preserve any physical evidence at the scene. Able to investigate basic intelligence/information gained in order to validate it where necessary and/or prepare further work from it.
Driving (Level 5)
Has successfully completed the Operational Standard Driving course within the past 5 years and meets the aims and objectives of the course. Additionally may have been reauthorised to that level within the past 5 years. Meets the criteria set in the Competency Framework Risk Assessment Guide on Health Care. Authorised to use blue lights and sirens to respond in accordance with force policy If required by role, authorised to drive unmarked police vehicles in mobile surveillance operations, and/or is authorised to ride motorcyles at a standard level having passed a Standard Motorcycle course.
Drugs (Level 3)
Has a basic understanding of the various types of drugs and paraphernalia used to administer and manufacture illegal substances. Has a good understanding of drugs related offences, relevant legislation, the evidence required to support further investigation and an awareness of the support and assistance that other investigative officers and agencies can offer.
Firearms (Level 4)
Able to exhibit the skills learned as part of the basic firearms or support group course and/or as a supervisor has received training in firearms response and is able to demonstrate a good knowledge of the issues concerning firearms incidents.
Firearms Command (Level 3)
Accepts responsibility for the deployment and management of available resources in spontaneous firearms situations and tailors tactics in line with operational priorities. Is fully aware of firearms policies, specialist resources and equipment and can provide basic options for consideration by a Silver Commander.
First Aid (Level 3)
Can take charge of a situation and render basic life support, if an injury or illness should occur, having satisfactorily completed (BLS) training covering choking, CPR, effective control of bleeding and the recovery position. Demonstrates competence to an approved standard and holds the required certificate. Retention of competence will be subject to basic refresher training and re-assessment every three years.
Health and Safety (Level 4)
Has received Supervisor training and takes responsibility for the safety of directly subordinate staff and visitors. Understands the procedures in place for the safe storage of hazardous substances, fire precautions and evacuation. Resolves hazards or problems identified within roles or work environments. Undertakes skills passport assessments for new and existing staff. Re-assesses passport as and when new equipment/technology is introduced.Completes annual reviews of skills passports, training needs analysis.
Incident/Scene Management and Control (Level 4)
Maintains an overview of the incident. Sets up appropriate and effective cordons. Following assessment of the situation gives estimates for additional personnel requirements and specialist teams. Uses knowledge and assessment of staff capabilities to effectively deploy attending personnel and maintains awareness of the location of all deployed resources. Aware of the need to balance the gathering of evidence with the need to resolve the incident. Aware of Area contingency plans and able to initiate further action.
Information Management and Technology (Level 3)
Knows the range of police information systems available locally to support daily activities, and understands their uses. Can use police information systems to perform routine tasks. May be able to create simple records, and amends data to add information, within requirements of role. Understands data quality issues.
Intelligence Gathering and Analysis (Level 4)
Able to analyse basic intelligence submitted and/or make decisions about whether it should be followed up or not. If further research is necessary, be able to carry out that task or delegate to another officer. If required, be able to put together basic information packages for others based on the intelligence gained.
Internal Consultancy (Level 5)
Provides expert consultancy support, advice and guidance to senior managers in Departments and Areas. Understands and agrees client requirements. Agrees the level of service required after exploring all relevant options and consequences to ensure best value. Utilises appropriate techniques to gather and analyse specific, high quality data. Possesses the ability to influence others and gain commitment to action. Able to provide a seamless consultancy service.
Knowledge of Legislation and Policy (Level 4)
Has a thorough understanding of all legislation, policy and procedure relevant to the current role. Able to apply this and offer advice to colleagues as necessary.
Management of Police Information (MOPI) (Level 5)
Has sufficient understanding of the NPCC records management policies be able to offer appropriate guidance and support to staff. Is able to identify the appropriate MOPI group for any record with a policing purpose and ensure that all policing records within the team are retained, reviewed or destroyed in line with the MOPI codes of practice. Quality assures staff to ensure a full understanding and compliance with the APP for Information Management (incorporating MOPI guidance), highlighting failings and taking appropriate action as required. Ensures training and/or refresher training is provided and completed. Ensures that systems are correctly linked together to ensure effective management and recording of information across systems. Appropriately reviews digital information held on system(s) and physical records in storage to ensure that they are retained only where there is a policing purpose. Complies with relevant policies and procedures in respect of prioritisation, sanitisation, dissemination, shari g, relevancy, accuracy, adequacy and timeliness.
Public Order (Level 3)
Confident and experienced in the application of restraint and self defence techniques to lawfully detain persons, with or without personal protective equipment. Able to identify a threat and overcome it by force if necessary. Demonstrates the ability to use training received to adhoc level PSU and able to understand and react to basic commands. Able to use the appropriate response to public order situations. Familiar with the standard phrases of command and is, therefore, able to co-ordinate teamwork and/or operate alongside others.
Risk Management (Level 4)
Able to anticipate risks likely to affect the team's ability to execute their function, in terms of likelihood and impact, and assesses how the challenges facing the wider organisation might affect their team and their objectives. Has an understanding of pathways to alert local managers to flawed or ineffective operational control strategies and provide continuity/recovery options. Has an appreciation that seizing opportunities also generates risks.
Search (Level 3)
Has a basic level of search awareness and/or exhibits the skills gained on a search awareness course. Understands the principals of stop and search and their application. Able to deal with associated paperwork, handling of exhibits and gathering of evidence. Has a good working knowledge of PACE powers and warrants and application of the same.
Staff Safety (Level 4)
Has been trained in the skills and demonstrates the ability to apply elements of the staff safety programme. These are: Communication Skills, Handcuffing Skills, Unarmed Skills, Incapacitant Skills, Baton Skills and Edged Weapons Awareness. Currently authorised to use these techniques, having received initial or refresher training within the last 12 months. Able to apply these . techniques in practical situations minimising the risk of injury to themselves and ensuring their own safety and the safety of colleagues and members of the public.
