Coordinate and maintain a range of classified, restricted, confidential and secret information within a secure environment, constructing confidential information reports, ensuring quality standards are achieved and further research undertaken as required ensuring the provision of accurate and timely intelligence to officers within the Force and in accordance with Force policy. Provide support to the unit including resolving queries, giving advice on matters related to the unit, processing of incoming and outgoing mail, order and distribute equipment ensuring the smooth running of the unit.
Conduct research on all intelligence disseminated by the unit, transferring it from confidential network to restricted network and ensuring it is accurately recorded in a timely manner which can involve liaising with Intelligence Bureau, to ensure urgent intelligence is disseminated in the correct manner, with risk assessments completed where necessary.
Act as ISO in respect of sensitive intelligence by creating sensitive PIRs onto Force systems, carrying out the necessary process to make such intelligence live ensuring the information is disseminated without delay.
Compile rolling logs of intelligence by liaising with other departments regularly to ensure intelligence is disseminated correctly and quickly.
Conduct proactive research and scanning of intelligence, crime and incident reports, partner information and review analytical products, in order to assist with the identification and targeting of offenders and identify links between unknown potential sources in order to support individual operations and the work of the DSU.
Conduct proactive research and analysis to develop intelligence to support assessment of harm (warning markers) to reduce the risk of danger to the public and officers alike.
Conduct open source research for both research purposes and to identify potential CHIS based on knowledge of intelligence gaps in respect of criminality type and geographical coverage ensuring opportunities to maximise the potentiation of CHIS network.
Liaise on a regular basis with internal contacts and external partner agencies in relation to prison releases and probation, requesting release dates and addresses in order to increase the level of intelligence held on inmates and newly released offenders.
Provide administrative support for the DSU, including filing, photo- copying, ordering of stationery items, receive and screen incoming mail, prioritising and forwarding as appropriate and preparing outgoing mail for despatch, respond to telephone calls from various sources, and using discretion as to which calls can be dealt with and those to be referred including assisting the Central Authorities Bureau by receiving and screening CHIS tasking requests internally and from external agencies to ensure appropriate coverage and allocation and where applicable provide cover for other DSUs as and when required to ensure operational efficiency.
Manage on a daily basis, the Units expense accounts in order to provide a comprehensive and efficient service for the unit.

The post holder should be educated to at least GCSE Level with at least 2 years experience in a policing environment. The post holder requires a developed knowledge and understanding of the policing environment, specifically intelligence systems, PNC, Experience and PINS to fulfil the requirement to research, identify and risk assess relevant information prior to dissemination.
The post holder must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with police officers and support staff at all levels both within and outside of the organisation. Tact, diplomacy together with discretion are important skills.
The post-holder must have a structured and methodical approach to work as they will deal with large volumes of intelligence, ensuring the information is disseminated in an accurate manner with reference numbers and documents updated accordingly.
A high level of IT skills is essential including Microsoft office products, email and open source research tools.
The post holder must be skilled in accurate data input, research and recording in order to protect the Force and its staff members.
The post holder will also need to be vetted to the required level as dictated by the authorising officer.

Possesses a detailed working knowledge of a range of operational police information systems. Accredited to an advanced level in the use of more than one of these systems and has a full understanding of all necessary operating rules and protocols.
