Degree level qualification in Energy, Environmental Science or other related discipline.
A good level of knowledge/training in energy and carbon management reporting. A good knowledge of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
Experience of energy monitoring and management activities for a large organisation, experience of collating and analysing complex data sets, preferably energy monitoring data, producing reports and recommendations.
Ability to analyse complex information and present robust financial business cases for projects including calculation and assessment of carbon emissions, energy costs and incomes. Ability to apply advanced theoretical and technical knowledge to developing solutions for energy management for the force.
Considerable drive and perseverance is essential in order to achieve demonstrable results if the role is to be successful.
The Environmental Officer will have strong problem solving skills with an innovative approach to finding solutions that best fit the operational needs of the Force in the most cost effective way. Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing, are essential to enable the post holder to produce complex reports, briefings and presentations. The Environmental Officer will have a thorough understanding of the relevant legislative and regulatory framework, including the Energy Act 2008, Climate Change Act 2008, Communities and Local Government Planning Act 2008, the EU Common Energy Policies and Government Renewable Energy Strategy.
Competent information technology skills, including a variety of Microsoft packages are required.
