Management Vetting (MV) and Security Check (SC)
Hours of duty are primarily day and late turn working one weekend in three. Flexibility is necessary, as there is a need for working some unsociable hours as necessary. Post is based within a LPA, but may be required to travel countywide. Plain clothes to be worn for Duty. The Post holder must be prepared to undertake any training relevant to that post.

This post is deemed to be a designated post. Vetting clearance is a pre- requisite of employment in designated posts and the postholder will be subject to management vetting assessment every 7 years. National security vetting clearances are reviewed every 10 years.

Basic awareness of the principles against terrorist activity, the Security Alert Status Levels and relevant policies. Able to gain information from various sources and is aware of how to give that information to the relevant department and in what format it is required. Able to liaise with the appropriate personnel if necessary to gain advice as to the gathering and analysis of any information obtained.
Has a basic understanding of Health and Safety issues affecting the current role and working environment. Takes responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others. Aware of hazards and reports problems identified to line manager. Understands and minimises the physical risk of injury through the use of proper manual handling procedures.
Knows the range of police information systems available locally to support daily activities, and understands their uses. Can use police information systems to perform routine tasks. May be able to create simple records, and amends data to add information, within requirements of role. Understands data quality issues.
Able to analyse basic intelligence submitted and/or make decisions about whether it should be followed up or not. If further research is necessary, be able to carry out that task or delegate to another officer. If required, be able to put together basic information packages for others based on the intelligence gained.
Has a thorough understanding of all legislation, policy and procedure relevant to the current role. Able to apply this and offer advice to colleagues as necessary.
Full compliance with Level 3. Has successfully completed all standard relevant Information Management and Security training package(s). Accurate use of Government Security Classification (GSC). Ensures physical and digital records are stored with appropriate security relevant to the sensitivity of the documents and has working understanding of appropriate National Retention Schedules. Is able to quality assure own records management processes as well as those of any staff for whom they have supervisory responsibility. Is aware of where to seek further support in relation to Records management within force when necessary. If nominated as an Information Asset Assistant is familiar with the NPCC Information Asset Owners Handbook.
Demonstrates an awareness of personal risk management issues, challenges or difficulties likely to affect the post holder in the execution of their duties. Able to anticipate risks likely to affect their work and knows how to communicate the likelihood and possible impacts of such events to line managers or supervisors.
Competent in a range of surveillance equipment and has a full understanding of the impact of policies and authorisations needed to use that equipment. And/ or has a comprehensive understanding of the issues surrounding the acquisition and use of CCTV both in relation to police operations and in public and private systems, and manages the function within practical situations.
Plans operations gathering information, intelligence or evidence about specific policing problem aimed at contributing to the achievement of the Force Policing Plan and /or identified local need, ensuring that it is both ethical and conforms to best practice. Complete a thorough risk assessment for operational events, ensuring adequate control measures are in place and that an appropriate contingency plan is developed. Example: Identify the specific policing problem and set the objective of the proposed operation. Research information and intelligence systems and register your interest, as required. Ensure proposed action is co-ordinated with other police interest in the subject. Consider the range of police responses and the involvement of other enforcement agencies. Liaise with the required internal/external agencies and personnel, in accordance with policy. Decide the appropriate response. Obtain necessary authority for the proposed equipment to be used during the operation. Plan operation completing the necessary research, risk and impact assessment and identifying resource and finance requirements, in accordance with IIRMAC. Complete required documented plan and submit it for assessment and authorisation in accordance with the legislation and policy. Compile the authorised operational order and obtain the necessary warrants, in accordance with the legislation and policy. Identify possible hazards and how persons may be affected. Evaluate risks and intelligence before implementing appropriate control measures. Liaise closely with emergency services and other agencies involved in the event when conducting the risk assessment. Produce a comprehensive written record of the event planning and risk assessment process carried out. Prepare a contingency plan and planned tactical responses to anticipate any other significant risks and to ensure the safety of persons concerned so far as is reasonably practicable. If during an event changes or additions occur to the original risk assessment, keep records of any new risks identified, the circumstances and of the control measures put in place. Undertake a review of the risk assessment process after the event to enable information to be highlighted that may be used to enhance safety at future events.
Has a good general awareness of the work of the target referral teams, understands the quality requirements of cases to be referred to these specialist teams and what needs to be done to put together target packages.
