Main purpose of the role:
Deliver and design a wide range of Leadership training courses, including identifying training requirements for Essex Police and Kent Police as appropriate, assessing and evaluating students and reviewing and revising training material, in order to ensure the provision of high quality training that allows personnel to fulfil their current and future roles within the organisation, in accordance with College of Policing guidelines and organisational values.
Deliver a wide range of leadership training courses, providing relevant and current professional training for officers and staff throughout Essex Police and Kent Police. This may include individual coaching or tuition and always ensuring the provision of high quality training and assistance to police leaders in their Continuous Professional Development.
Create and develop courses as directed, undertaking research and project work to develop new leadership courses from concept to implementation, whilst ensuring they are fit for purpose and meet relevant time/cost restraints.
Assess, evaluate and debrief course participants, both verbally and where required in writing, providing advice and guidance on preferred learning styles and identifying further development needs as appropriate to assist students in reaching their full potential.
Evaluate and revise course content and timetables, assessing student feedback and making changes and improvements to courses as necessary, in order to create the best learning environment and maintain the quality of courses offered to officers and staff.
Develop and maintain professional subject matter currency maintaining an up to date knowledge of emerging issues, reporting back and highlighting potential risk, planning and incorporating for any variance of material in training programmes, ensuring best practice is adopted and promulgated within the Department and Force.
Monitor the maintenance of accurate records of leadership courses and attendees and complete all necessary paperwork and administration associated with the delivery of courses.
Undertake risk assessments and safety checks of facilities and equipment used for training programmes, arranging for repairs and maintenance of equipment as required, in order to ensure that all such facilities comply with Health & Safety standards.
Vetting level: Recruitment Vetting (RV)
The post holder will possess a Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent, or be prepared to undertake a PTRLDP course to obtain the AET qualification and have two to five years practical experience as well as an up to date knowledge of training delivery appropriate to the subjects covered by the unit with ability to prepare course materials and design lesson plans. The post holder must be organised and confident with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, this will be combined with the ability to debrief course attendees, both verbally and in writing, to enable them to develop to their full potential. An attention to detail and high levels of concentration are also essential. Significant personal motivation and drive is essential in order to achieve demonstrable results if the role is to be successful and the post holder will be expected to support and contribute towards business planning processes.
Essex Pay Progression: Scale 6 The Trainer will have a basic understanding of the role/subject area and will be working towards: Completing and passing the PTRLDP initial Trainer course attaining a level 3 qualification of an Award in Education and Training (AET) An assessors qualification as required for role Progression criteria, delivering training through support and mentoring of colleagues. All trainers will be expected to deliver all the core subject areas within the department.
SO1 The Trainer will be signed off competent to achieve SO1 once they have completed and passed the recognised Police trainer qualifications (AET) or equivalent and reached competent to deliver independently against specific core programmes evidenced through the PDR. Signed off for CLDP for both Supervisor and Line Manager level programme delivery.

Management of Police information (MOPI) (level 4)
Full compliance with Level 3. Has successfully completed all standard relevant Information Management and Security training package(s). Accurate use of Government Security Classification (GSC). Ensures physical and digital records are stored with appropriate security relevant to the sensitivity of the documents and has working understanding of appropriate National Retention Schedules. Is able to quality assure own records management processes as well as those of any staff for whom they have supervisory responsibility. Is aware of where to seek further support in relation to Records management within force when necessary. If nominated as an Information Asset Assistant is familiar with the NPCC Information Asset Owners Handbook.
Office technology (level 4)
Demonstrates advanced skills in the use of one or more office software products Able to use these packages to enhance the quality or presentation of work required within the role. Manages data files and file structures. Provides on the job training and guidance to other staff in the use of specific or specialist software, if required. Familiar with established IT rules and protocols and shows a good understanding of data protection requirements.

Delivers a wide range of training packages, on a variety of subjects, and assists with the creation of various distance and flexible learning packages. Tailors courses to meet the current needs of the Force. Produces training plans for approval to rectify skills gaps.
