Main purpose of the role:
The Op Raptor Team Sergeant will supervise a team of Officers and Staff who will work to the Control Strategy with a primary focus on County Drug Lines Holders and Urban Street Gangs and tackling related violence and vulnerability, whilst also acting on intelligence to enable prompt action, preventing a situation deteriorating or developing.
Main responsibilities:
- Supervise the Constables and Investigating Officers within Op Raptor Team on a day to day basis, assign and co-ordinate workload and manage and motivate staff by providing direction and leadership, completing staff appraisals, addressing welfare issues, advising on personal development, training and coaching, in order to build and sustain an effective team of detectives capable of achieving objectives.
- Supervise the Op Raptor Constables/Investigating Officers activities, ensuring their response is executed safely, proportionately and in accordance with relevant legislation, force policy and procedure.
- Assist with monitoring of duties and distribution of staff in order to provide a high-quality service at all times.
- Provide support to the Detective Inspector and maintain knowledge of pro-active operations and the deployment of assets on a daily basis, through objectives and intelligence lead policing (Tactical Tasking and Coordination process (TTCG), Intelligence packages.
- Achieve agreed service/compliance levels of service regarding timeliness and quality of performance to ensure that local and global service level agreements are met, which in turn will keep the Op Raptor Team working as an effective resource assisting Essex Police to satisfy its duty of prevent and reduce harm to vulnerable persons.
- Supervise case work and investigation files to a high level.
- Develop the Raptor teams on communication data analysis and Peer review analytical attribution statements being produced for complex case conspiracies.
- Develop and improve the internal working practices and processes within the Team in order to reduce inefficiencies, add value to services and increase service provision to Essex Police and partnership agencies.
- Identify new and innovative methods of offender management and develop operations and briefing documents as required. Provide advice and guidance to departments across the force in regard to how the team might support their objectives for example arrests or disrupts criminals. They will help mitigate threat, harm and risk of the most significant gang offenders /associates that pose a threat to the community.
- Develop and Maintain relationships with partner law enforcement agencies, such as ERSOU, ROCU, NCA, NCLCC, Metropolitan Police Service.
- Maintain knowledge and experience surrounding tactics that can be utilised in the management of key gang nominals - i.e. RIPA/ Optica /Open source etc.
- Build and maintain professional relationships and trust with internal and external stakeholders, participate in relevant meetings, prepare and deliver reports and briefings to the Detective Inspector, partner agencies and other departments when required.
- Undertake all such other reasonable duties as may be required by the DI, in order to ensure the teams commitments are met and complete training to ensure and maintain proficiency in role.

Necessary experience:
Knowledge of legislative and regulatory frameworks relevant to the role, such as the Data Protection Act, Human Rights Act and Management of Police Information, in addition to Essex Police policy in relation to disclosure of information, would be advantageous. Knowledge of law PACE, RIPA, CPIA codes of practice and rules of evidence in relation to investigation of crime is also necessary for this role.
The role holder may be required to travel as part of their duty and therefore a full UK driving licence is essential and appropriate basic police driving course.
Good IT skills are a necessity for this post which would encompass application of Essex Police and national systems.
Appropriate training is required NIE, ICIDP, DIDP, and PIP level 2 and it is desirable the post holder is an accredited detective Identify and demonstrate best practice to maintain integrity and identify corrupt practices within this field of operation.
