Provide direct supervisory support to the Operational Development Support Officers in the identification of best practice, and maintenance of standards with regards to public protection investigations and safeguarding, completing reports and recommendations to the Crime & Public Protection Command team, in order to propose improvement activity across the command.
Provide direct supervision to the Operational Development Support Officers in the support of the development of policy, procedure, and ensuring that public protection investigations and safeguarding is carried out in accordance with policy.
Engage directly and attend meetings with external partners such as academic institutions, HMIC, IOPC and OPCC in order to identify and disseminate best practice according to national guidance and standards, representing Essex Police within any communication.
Complete planning and supervision of the implementation of recommendations from the Home Office, IOPC, NPCC and College of Policing in respect of ensuring that progress is made against recommendations, providing reports on the progress of implementation.
Produce reports and recommendations from management information and statistics as required internally completing the presentation of reports as required, for the Home Office, HMIC, OPCC etc
Attend single and multi-agency strategic and operational meetings to improve the performance and delivery of services to vulnerable victims across the county.
Oversee and coordinate improvement activity relating to Public Protection ensuring that the standard of working produced by Operational Development Support Officers is of a sufficient quality.
Supervision of the production and review of Public Protection policies and procedures and supporting officers and staff across the Force in their application.
Manage and supervise the workloads of the Operational Development Support Officers.
Complete reports regarding the identification of persistent problems, providing recommendations to improve working practices and compliance with policy and procedure.

Previous supervisory experience is essential, within a role that has involved organisational development and performance improvement.
This role requires an excellent understanding of IT platforms including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint to ensure maintenance and tracking of large databases.
A good understanding of the organisational structure and interdependencies of roles and departments is essential together with an awareness of strategic priorities and operational objectives. Attending partnership agency meetings to identify, share and develop best practice and standards is key to this role, therefore strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential together with excellent report writing skills.
It is desirable that the postholder should also have experience of safeguarding vulnerable persons
