Lead the operational POLIT to protect the community. To identify, investigate and bring offenders to justice who use online opportunities to sexually offend against children. To ensure safeguarding for all known victims and mitigate harm to others. Manage all aspects of offences under investigation by POLIT. To oversee the activities of staff under your command ensuring integrity and standards of investigation are maintained. Act as Senior Investigating Officer as necessary.

The post holder will be PIP 2 (NIE and ICIDP), SCAIDIP, Cybercrime, Open Source, CAID and XRY trained or be willing to undergo the necessary training; and be required to undergo Spektor Training to enable the use of triage equipment. The post holder may also be required to undergo training in the Child Protection System (Peer to Peer), PND and COSMOS. The role holder must be able to demonstrate and evidence previous experience of managing and developing a team within a customer focused and office environment.
The role holder must be able to demonstrate managing and developing strong partnerships and stakeholder relationships. A knowledge of and experience in risk assessment, vulnerabilities, Public Protection Crimes, hidden harm and exploitation would be beneficial. The role holder must be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, be able to analyse, interpret and risk assess qualitative and quantitative data, and have interpersonal skills that engender credibility and confidence. The role holder must be able to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. They must have experience of managing a team working to tight deadlines with a high volume of work. Knowledge of legislative and regulatory frameworks relevant to the role, such as the Data Protection Act, Human Rights Act and Management of Police Information, in addition to Essex Police policy in relation to disclosure of information, would be advantageous. Knowledge of law PACE, RIPA, CPIA codes of practice and rules f evidence in relation to investigation of crime is also necessary for this role. SOA 2003 and relevant national and ACPO Guidance. The role holder may be required to travel as part of their duty and therefore a full UK driving licence is essential and appropriate basic police driving course. Good IT skills are a necessity for this post which would encompass application of Essex Police and national systems. A high level of integrity is required due to the confidential and sensitive material deal with by the post holder.

Has sufficient understanding of the NPCC records management policies be able to offer appropriate guidance and support to staff. Is able to identify the appropriate MOPI group for any record with a policing purpose and ensure that all policing records within the team are retained, reviewed or destroyed in line with the MOPI codes of practice. Quality assures staff to ensure a full understanding and compliance with the APP for Information Management (incorporating MOPI guidance), highlighting failings and taking appropriate action as required. Ensures training and / or refresher training is provided and completed. Ensures that systems are correctly linked together to ensure effective management and recording of information across systems. Appropriately reviews digital information held on system(s) and physical records in storage to ensure that they are retained only where there is a policing purpose. Complies with relevant policies and procedures in respect of prioritisation, sanitisation, dissemination, shari g, relevancy, accuracy, adequacy and timeliness.
Able to anticipate, accurately define and establish the relative level of risk likely to affect their specialist function, in terms of likelihood and impact, together with how the challenges facing the wider organisation might affect their role within the force. Has a sound understanding of the legal and procedural issues surrounding all vulnerable victims and is able to advise others. Familiar with procedure with regard to children taken into police protection. Has knowledge of the work of officers of the Social Services, NSPCC and other voluntary agencies in providing on-going support and care for all victims. Demonstrates the ability to successfully gain evidence and bring a case to Court.
