Main purpose of the role:
To work as part of a team conducting intelligence led pro-active deployments to tackle criminals using the roads whilst still meeting the commitment to reduce killed and seriously injured collisions through enforcement and education. To provide a specialist motorcycle capability for Roads Policing and wider Force needs.
To deploy as part of a team to areas as directed by Intelligence led taskings, servicing Tasking Packages generated within the Road Crime Unit, Roads Policing and beyond.
Gather and submit intelligence by building on knowledge, observation and targeting of criminals aimed at improving the detection and prevention of crime in the community.
To take an active role in the reduction of collisions on the road by enforcement, education and the identification of engineering needs.
Take the lead in dealing with incidents as appropriate, directing public and other officers as necessary in accordance with officer safety techniques. Apply appropriate crime scene management techniques. In particular those of a Roads Policing nature.
Provide an overt police presence and the ability to respond to public calls for assistance by patrolling a community in an allocated police vehicle to ensure a high visibility police presence.
Undertake the investigation of incidents, detection of offenders and report accordingly, ensuring that high standards of integrity and quality are maintained.
Contribute to Force, SERP and National road safety programs; organising events and providing assessed rides to customers providing meaningful feedback to riders.
Provide Motorcycle escorts to appropriate customers.
Engage in all tasked Operations taking a lead on those relating Road Crime and Road Safety.
Provide support and guidance to outside agencies in relation to road traffic matters.
Perform the responsibilities of a Roads Policing PC - EPOP0111 (Constable) during high demand.
The post holder will work a rotational shift pattern covering 24 hours with normal shift rest days. The current pattern is generally 6 on 3 off working 9 hour days Monday to Friday and 8 hour days Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Occasionally Officers will be required to work different duties at short notice. This is a uniformed position. Post is based at a specified unit but may be required to travel countywide.
Mandatory Road Policing experience.
Qualifications Must have or be able to attain (and maintain) an Advanced Motorcycle riding authorisation.
Must be able to attain (and maintain) VIP Escort status.

Has successfully completed the Operational Advanced Driving course within the past 5 years and meets the aims and objectives of the course. Additionally may have been reauthorised to that level within the past 5 years. If required by role authorised to drive Technical Surveillance vehicles in mobile surveillance operations. And/or is authorised to ride motorcycles at an advanced level having passed an Advanced Motorcycle course.

Demonstrates the skills contained within the Kent Police PEACE course. Effectively uses a good working knowledge of legislation relating to interviews significant statements and special warnings. Able to confidently prepare an interview strategy using available resources including recognising the value of intelligence, and understands the management of disclosure and no comment interviews.
Interviewing - Witnesses (Level 3)
Demonstrates the skills contained within the Kent Police PEACE course which incorporates cognitive interviewing. Shows use of this style of interviewing and can apply it operationally giving consideration to identification and procedural issues. Successfully undertakes initial telephone investigation of crime.
Knowledge of Legislation and Policy (Level 4)
Has a thorough understanding of all legislation, policy and procedure relevant to the current role. Able to apply this and offer advice to colleagues as necessary.
Management of Police Information (MOPI) (Level 4)
Full compliance with Level 3. Has successfully completed all standard relevant Information Management and Security training package(s). Accurate use of Government Security Classification (GSC). Ensures physical and digital records are stored with appropriate security relevant to the sensitivity of the documents and has working understanding of appropriate National Retention Schedules. Is able to quality assure own records management processes as well as those of any staff for whom they have supervisory responsibility. Is aware of where to seek further support in relation to Records management within force when necessary. If nominated as an Information Asset Assistant is familiar with the NPCC Information Asset Owners Handbook.
Risk Management (Level 3)
Demonstrates an awareness of personal risk management issues, challenges or difficulties likely to affect the post holder in the execution of their duties. Able to anticipate risks likely to affect their work and knows how to communicate the likelihood and possible impacts of such events to line managers or supervisors.
Staff Safety (Level 4)
Has been trained in the skills and demonstrates the ability to apply elements of the staff safety programme. These are: Communication Skills, Handcuffing Skills, Unarmed Skills, Incapacitant Skills, Baton Skills and Edged Weapons Awareness. Currently authorised to use these techniques, having received initial or refresher training within the last 12 months. Able to apply these . techniques in practical situations minimising the risk of injury to themselves and ensuring their own safety and the safety of colleagues and members of the public.
Traffic (Level 5)
Has extensive knowledge of road traffic legislation, policy and procedure and a detailed understanding of the responsibilities and working practices of other traffic related agencies. Has a thorough understanding of drivers hours and operators licensing appertaining to LGV's and PCV's. Good working knowledge of scene management and command and control for complex incidents. Able to use video equipment in a traffic environment and specialist equipment in ICVs and video cars.
