Main purpose of the role:
To supervise and work as part of a team conducting investigations into Roads Policing matters and associated criminal matters. Provide support to other officers across the Force in achieving Roads Policing related objectives. To provide additional Roads Policing resilience during periods of high demand or in response to operational needs. Provide support to the Casualty Reduction Manager in the running of other areas of the department where required.
Supervise and lead Investigation Team staff to deliver high standards in relation to investigations, customer service and road safety.
Develop and maintain processes to deal with high volume workloads efficiently.
Have an increased level of knowledge in relation to Roads Policing investigations, law and legal processes.
Facilitate the prosecution of offenders through the Criminal Justice System or National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme. Adjudicating and supervising files and process papers and liaising proactively with Criminal Justice Department staff and CPS.
Maintain accreditation as a Road Scene Manager (RSM) and deploy to the scene of fatal and serious collisions.
Attend and investigate collisions and incidents involving police vehicles.
Provide support and advice to outside agencies in relation to Roads Policing matters.
Liaise with media in relation to the Teams investigations or other Roads Policing matters where necessary.
Provide support and expertise advice to all officers in relation to Roads Policing matters.
Assist in the investigation of fatal or serious collisions during periods of high demand within the Serious Collision Investigation Unit or retained by Roads Policing Officers at Response & Patrol Hubs.
The post is based on office hours with the flexibility for evening and weekend working.
The Casualty Reduction Section is based at South Woodham Ferrers Police Station additional travel may be required countywide and from time to time out of County.
