Main purpose of the role:
Supervise Police officers from the Rural Engagement Team and dedicated Police Wildlife Officer. Engage with the rural community including attending rural meetings and undertaking roles when the Head of the Rural Engagement Team is unavailable. Increase confidence in police within the Rural Community by high visibility engagement, providing reassurance and problem solving for repeat victims. Provide support to other agencies with rural matters. Deliver a consistent, assertive and proactive approach to all criminal enforcement issues related to unauthorised traveller encampments countywide. Complete enforcement action against those who breach legislation in respect of unauthorised encampments. Ensure Proactive enforcement for fly tipping, hare coursing and when appropriate other rural criminal offences. Ensure Enforcement of fly tipping and hare coursing legislation. Working with other Police forces and agencies.
The tasking & supervision of performance monitoring, welfare, sickness management and development of RET staff including the planning and implementation of policing initiatives county-wide, working with partners to ensure solutions are delivered.
Promote policing within the rural Community.
Act as a Tactical Advisor to Chief Officers, local authorities, public land owners and other agencies regarding Traveller related issues in addition to managing Unauthorised Encampments (UEs) and applying a consistent use of powers of eviction under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, taking account of force policy and associated best practice guidance.
Contribute towards any multi agency review of current policies in relation to all types of Gypsy, Romany and Traveller (GRT) issues in order to ensure policy reflects a consistent and assertive approach to dealing with breaches of both locally set environmental standards and current legislation countywide.
Assist in the development of operations involving the GRT communities where possible through the contribution of knowledge held as result of accumulated intelligence gathered.
Represent Essex Police at the strategic national board of the NPCC lead for GRT, contributing to national policy and problem solving.
Ensure hare coursing, fly tipping and other rural crime is dealt with effectivity, reduced and prevented.

Hours are mainly office hours with flexibility to work some weekends if required.
This is a uniform post.
The post holder may be expected to wear plain-clothes as and when required.
Based at Essex Police HQ but will also be expected to work from County Hall, Chelmsford and may be required to travel countywide.
Post holder will be expected to carry a mobile telephone/ message pager or other means of contact.

Has a thorough understanding of Prevent objectives and how they are linked to Prevent activities in force.
