Main purpose of the role:
Supervise a team of officers engaged in all aspects of proactive, inter agency, intelligence led investigation of targets involved in organised crime emanating from Kent Ports, managing their activities to ensure a dynamic approach to the operational effectiveness of the unit.
Manage the day to day running of investigations carried out by a team of officers, nominating actions and overseeing enquiries in order that efficient and effective operational decisions can be made.
Create policy files for target packages, setting the parameters and policies of the investigation, taking best value into account and prepare operational orders as required.
Supervise and support the team, taking responsibility for their professional development by advising, guidance, coaching and securing relevant developmental opportunities to enhance individual and team competence and enable a consistently high performance. This includes providing support with health and welfare issues and in fulfilling development plans.
Agree individual case investigation plans with team members, monitor and prioritise work ensuring that all aspects of the investigation are properly covered enabling cases to succeed at court.
Provide expert advice to team members and other persons on all aspects of case handling, interviewing requirements, scene management, points of law, and points to prove to ensure they explore all relevant lines of enquiry and secure best evidence.
Ensure that all information of intelligence value gained during an operation / investigation is communicated to FIB or other relevant member of the intelligence community, and identify the potential of persons for recruitment as a source.
Supervise all aspects of casefile quality in order that the evidence going to the Crown Prosecution Service is of the highest standards, comprehensive and timely.
Initiate and maintain contact with departments and agencies both internal and external to the organisation, ensuring systems are in place to utilise each others skills and resources to aid the targeting process.
Run an incident room when required, taking the role of Senior investigating officer / Office manager, whether this be with the aid of HOLMES, or an action book.
