Main purpose of the role:
Supervise and manage the resources of the Tactical Firearms Team Unit who undertake a wide variety of front-line policing operations, including Firearms, Public Order, Specialist Entry, Surveillance and support to other Divisions in response to specific request.
The role includes undertaking a wide variety of front-line policing operations, including public order, specialist entry, surveillance, major investigations and appropriate support to territorial divisions and other forces or agencies as required by any agreed protocols.
Undertake duties as a Firearms Tactical Advisor (Bronze), Public Order PSU Commander and CBRN Bronze Commander.
Undertake the role of Surveillance Log Supervisor to ensure full compliance with the relevant sections of RIPA. Attendance at a Covert Law Enforcement Managers Course will be essential to be occupationally competent in this role.
To develop in terms of knowledge and experience to be able to act as the Head of Profession (Firearms) during the absence of the postholder.

The Inspectors duties are discretionary but flexibility is essential as there is a frequent need to adjust duties at short notice and may be a need to work extended hours for operational commitments.
Need to travel countywide and beyond. Officers are based in the TFT Unit accommodation at Boreham.
Applicants must be capable of successfully completing a basic firearms course and will hold a response driving authorisation.
The postholder must achieve the higher grade of advanced driving to be eligible to undertake firearms response duties and Level 1 surveillance operations.
Postholder must achieve and maintain the following operational competencies:
A.F.O. status by attending regular training days and by meeting current Force and national criteria.
Essex Police Firearms Tactical Advisor.
Essex Police Specialist Bronze Commander.
PSU Commander (Public Order).
CBRN Bronze Commander.
This post is deemed to be a designated post.
Vetting clearance is a pre-requisite of employment in designated posts and the post holder will be subject to management vetting assessment every 7 years. National security vetting clearances are reviewed every 10 years.

Has a good working knowledge of the intelligence function as a whole.
