Main purpose of the role:
Develop, prepare and deliver Taser training through the national framework in line with relevant compliance criteria, policy and guidance. Ensure that training is kept up to date with any future developments or changes with the content and its delivery to ensure delivery of the Force plan and PFCC Police and Crime plan 2016 by ensuring that Taser trained officers can protect the public through the intelligent deployment of Taser recourses in response to spontaneous demand and specialist planned capabilities.
Deliver taser training in line with College of Policing (CoP) guidance to officers ensuring that support and guidance is given to understand the capabilities of Taser and that operatives will have an appreciation of the physical and psychological effects of these devices. This will include undertaking tests and assessment with students.
Deliver the training packages to officers which are in line with national guidance ensuring that they are up to date and audited correctly to ensure that officers will remain accredited with their training and in licence. Ensure system administrator is current and relevant. Plan and deliver conversion training from previous Taser devises to ensure relevant devices are used accordingly in line with policy and guidelines
Identify, develop and support officers in relevant development plans where required should an officer fail an assessment or be subject of a complaint with the discharge of Taser, ensuring these are managed accordingly to support the officers needs and organisational audit is maintained.
Support and coordinate training schedules as required to facilitate current, ongoing and future training; supporting any future uplifts required of Taser trained officers.
Maintain accurate records of courses, attendees, and results completing all associated paperwork and administration duties for the delivery of courses and refresher training, highlighting any relevant developmental requirements, and disseminating this information appropriately, in order to record all details of student attainments and training courses delivered within the Force.
Review incidents, paperwork and reports to ensure Force standards on incidents attended are achieved and routine matters whereby the deployment of Taser was used within appropriate timescales. Ensure any force lessons learnt are considered both in training and feedback operationally.
Maintain own CPD through obtaining and maintaining firearms authorisation and additional attributes by attending regular training days and by meeting current Force criteria to ensure training can be delivered effectively.
Undertake detailed risk assessments and safety checks for training, facilities and equipment used during training programmes. Arrange for repairs and maintenance of equipment as required, in order to ensure that all such facilities comply with Health & Safety standards.
Assist with the delivery of training with Public Order during times of no scheduled Taser training.

Anti-terrorism (Level 3)
Basic awareness of the principles against terrorist activity, the Security Alert Status Levels and relevant policies. Able to gain information from various sources and is aware of how to give that information to the relevant department and in what format it is required. Able to liaise with the appropriate personnel if necessary to gain advice as to the gathering and analysis of any information obtained.

Identifies and recommends local objectives and targets for inclusion in the Division / Department plan. Takes responsibility for monitoring these and ensuring they are achieved.
Firearms (Level 4)
Able to exhibit the skills learned as part of the basic firearms or support group course and/or as a supervisor has received training in firearms response and is able to demonstrate a good knowledge of the issues concerning firearms incidents.
First Aid (Level 3)
Can take charge of a situation and render basic life support, if an injury or illness should occur, having satisfactorily completed (BLS) training covering choking, CPR, effective control of bleeding and the recovery position. Demonstrates competence to an approved standard and holds the required certificate. Retention of competence will be subject to basic refresher training and re-assessment every three years.
Health and Safety (Level 3)
Has a basic understanding of Health and Safety issues affecting the current role and working environment. Takes responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others. Aware of hazards and reports problems identified to line manager. Understands and minimises the physical risk of injury through the use of proper manual handling procedures.
Incident / Scene Management and Control (Level 3)
Able to undertake initial examination and assessment of an incident. Able to give clear and precise situation reports. Sets up effective communication and control points. Has an awareness of hazardous materials and devices and makes safety a first priority where risk is apparent. Able to request additional support and/or supervisory personnel and any other service which may be required. Aware of the requirements needed to secure and preserve evidence at the scene. Aware of Gold-Silver command arrangements.
Information Gathering and Analysis (Level 4)
Is able to identify reliable and appropriate sources of information and select methods of gathering information which are efficient and effective. Has a working knowledge of legislation and policy relevant to the collection, recording, storage and distribution of information.
Information Management and Technology (Level 4)
Can conduct basic computer searches and can correctly interpret data generated. Can create and amend records, according to role requirement. Knows established rules and protocols. Understands impact of data quality, and is self-monitoring on data quality issues.
Intelligence Gathering and Analysis (Level 4)
Able to analyse basic intelligence submitted and/or make decisions about whether it should be followed up or not. If further research is necessary, be able to carry out that task or delegate to another officer. If required, be able to put together basic information packages for others based on the intelligence gained.
Knowledge of Legislation and Policy (Level 2)
Understanding of this technical skill needs updating to give the post holder a sound basis to perform the requirements of the role. Needs further time in the role to gain experience under tuition and guidance to successfully apply this technical skill to the required level. Support and development in this area is necessary for successful application of these standards in practical situations.
Management of Police Information (MOPI) (Level 3)
Has a basic understanding of the APP for Information Management (incorporating MOPI guidance) and its practical application. Recognises when there is a policing purpose to record information. Is familiar with the NPCC Retention Schedule. Takes personal responsibility to ensure information is recorded accurately and is retained for as long as it has a policing purpose and is stored in such way to allow it to be accessed by those with legitimate reason. Securely disposes of material which no longer has a policing purpose. Has successfully completed all standard relevant Information Management and Security, training package(s). Accurate use of Government Security Classification (GSC). Ensures physical and digital records are stored with appropriate security relevant to the sensitivity of the documents.
Office Organisation (Level 4)
Fully conversant with organising an office and able to develop working practices which impact on productivity. Able to adapt and innovate so that the office environment contributes to increased efficiency and effectiveness. Can plan and control office activities to meet objectives. Able to prepare and present management information which facilitates action. Effectively evaluates information/products and makes recommendations on following a course of action.
Public Order (Level 3)
Confident and experienced in the application of restraint and self defence techniques to lawfully detain persons, with or without personal protective equipment. Able to identify a threat and overcome it by force if necessary. Demonstrates the ability to use training received to adhoc level PSU and able to understand and react to basic commands. Able to use the appropriate response to public order situations. Familiar with the standard phrases of command and is, therefore, able to co-ordinate teamwork and/or operate alongside others.
Research Techniques (Level 3)
Conducts basic research work, usually with a relatively narrow focus and is able to find out all the required relevant information or data for the task set. Can present findings in a logical and easily understood manner.
Risk Management (Level 4)
Able to anticipate risks likely to affect the team's ability to execute their function, in terms of likelihood and impact, and assesses how the challenges facing the wider organisation might affect their team and their objectives. Has an understanding of pathways to alert local managers to flawed or ineffective operational control strategies and provide continuity/recovery options. Has an appreciation that seizing opportunities also generates risks.
Staff Safety (Level 4)
Has been trained in the skills and demonstrates the ability to apply elements of the staff safety programme. These are: Communication Skills, Handcuffing Skills, Unarmed Skills, Incapacitant Skills, Baton Skills and Edged Weapons Awareness. Currently authorised to use these techniques, having received initial or refresher training within the last 12 months. Able to apply these . techniques in practical situations minimising the risk of injury to themselves and ensuring their own safety and the safety of colleagues and members of the public.
Training (Level 4)
Understands the various principles and methods of training and utilises them effectively. Creates, structures and delivers training from a basic outline or a previously identified skills gap. Able to tailor the training to address the needs of the group to be trained. Able to deliver a range of training courses/ packages on related subjects. Identifies and utilises available internal/external trainers, training resources and packages, as appropriate.
