Winter weather safety
Whether it’s on foot or in patrol cars, our officers continue to be out and about in the winter weather keeping you safe.
By taking some precautions, we can all get to where we’re going safely, but if you don’t need to leave home, then please don’t travel.
If you are out walking to work, school or catching public transport wrap up warm and take care. Try not to go out after dark, wear something bright so you can be seen and use a torch to help see where you are going.
Our officers will be looking after our patrol cars so they can be deployed to scenes of crime, as usual.
In winter weather conditions, drivers can make their journey safer by taking some preventative steps:
- Keep your distance - slippery road surfaces mean you will need more time to brake.
- Allow more time to get where you’re going and drive at a slower speed.
- Watch out for hazards such as black ice and foggy conditions that make driving dangerous.
- Fully clear windscreens before setting off so you have maximum visibility.
- Only drive a roadworthy car and fill up with petrol so you don’t break down.
- Carry some water, food and a warm blanket in the car for any eventualities.
