A motorcycle rider who struck a woman as she crossed the road, resulting in a fatal collision, has been jailed for 14 years.
Christopher Allen of Crooked Mile, Waltham Abbey, was jailed for causing the death of Adeline Stuart-Watt in a fatal collision in Loughton in April 2023.
The 61-year-old had pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing and stood trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.
He had denied causing death by dangerous driving but was found guilty at the conclusion of a five-day trial on Wednesday 2 April and jailed for 14 years. He was also disqualified from driving for 19 years.
An investigation into the collision was launched by our Serious Collision Investigation Unit after we were called shortly after 4.15pm on Sunday 16 April 2023 to reports of a collision concerning a motorcycle and a woman.
The motorcyclist, Christopher Allen, was riding along Epping New Road when he collided with a woman who was crossing the road on foot having dismounted her pedal cycle.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the victim, Miss Adeline Stuart-Watt, sadly, died at the scene. The 33-year-old had been out for the day cycling through Epping Forest.
The investigation found that Christopher Allen had drank at least two pints of alcohol shortly before the collision and was travelling at double the speed limit for the road.
Detective Constable Jacqueline Dean said:
Today, my thoughts are with Miss Stuart-Watt’s family who have shown great dignity throughout.
