Missed - Rachel Dixon

Work by our specialist officers has ensured a man who murdered his mother has been jailed for life.

We were called to an address in Clacton on Friday 21 March this year following reports of a woman being seriously injured.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services at the scene, Rachel Dixon, 49, died.

Local officers saw a man at the front door of the address in Skelmersdale Road.

The man locked the door when challenged, but officers gained entry round the back of the property and found the defendant Oliver Grange in the garden.

The 24-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder. Rachel had suffered a fatal stab wound in her former home.

During interview Grange, of Skelmersdale Road, Clacton, read a prepared statement and then refused to answer questions.

However, the evidence against him was very clear and when he appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday 26 June he plead guilty to murder.

At the same court today, Friday 29 August, he was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 15 years.

Devastated by Rachel's loss

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood, who led our investigation, said:

“This was a truly horrific and violent attack.
“While Grange has now been sentenced, it does not detract from the fact that Rachel’s future has been taken away from her and her loved ones continue to be devastated by their loss.
“Our thoughts remain with Rachel’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. We know this loss is felt widely.
“The officers who attended the scene of this murder worked with paramedics to try and save Rachel that day, and bravely went into the house to apprehend Grange.”

Taken too soon

Following the sentencing Rachel’s family paid tribute to her, saying:

“Our beautiful daughter, sister, mother and auntie, who will be greatly missed by all who was taken away from us far too soon.”
