Just after 4.30pm on Tuesday, 23 December, our control room was flooded with calls from concerned members of the public. Reports were coming in of high-value cars speeding through the Danbury area, appearing to race each other towards Chelmsford on the busy A12.
Witnesses described the drivers as weaving dangerously through rush-hour traffic, blocking lanes and causing chaos for other motorists. The behaviour was not only anti-social – it was downright reckless.
Our Roads Policing Unit responded and quickly tracked down the vehicles, which had already parked up in Cold Norton.
Checks revealed that three of the drivers had no insurance meaning a Lamborghini, a Range Rover and a Bentley were all seized under Section 59 of the Road Traffic Act - a costly end to an evening of dangerous driving.
Racing on public roads isn’t just illegal – it’s deadly.
High-speed driving puts everyone at risk, from other motorists to pedestrians. If you see dangerous driving, report it immediately.
Your call could prevent a serious collision and save lives.
