We’ve secured a Criminal Behaviour Order for the next two years against a man in Chelmsford.
Forty-five-year-old Gareth Atkinson, of no fixed abode, had been charged with criminal damage and a public order offence after damaging a police vehicle.
He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrate’s Court on 29 May and was given the CBO which is in place until 2027.
Under the order he is not permitted to enter any Co-op or Tesco store in Chelmsford, cannot be carrying open containers of alcohol and cannot be intoxicated in a public place.
Importantly, he must also remain in contact with support services in the city while under the order.
Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant, Gareth Thomas, said:
“We want to make sure everyone can enjoy Chelmsford, so it was right that Atkinson had to appear before magistrates.
“They’re also useful for directing people towards the help they may need. With the right support, CBOs can help us prevent offences before they happen.
“Our officers are out every day in the city centre to make sure it is welcoming to everyone, and we won’t hesitate to take the appropriate action when we see behaviour like this.”
