Our Business Crime Team run workshops to help hospitality and retail staff deal with conflict at work.
They’ve delivered sessions all over the county, some in partnership with the Essex Chambers of Commerce.
The sessions offer practical advice on spotting signs of trouble early, staying safe and using communication to calm tense situations. They also offer businesses the opportunity to raise concerns, seek advice and access bespoke crime prevention support.
Business crime officer PC Mike Lee says:
“We show staff how to use their communication skills to de-escalate situations before they become abusive or violent.
“By promoting safer business practices and giving them the tools to stay safe and confident, we aim to help staff to protect themselves and their customers.”
The sessions provide useful guidance on non-physical techniques, how to identify when violence might occur – before it does – and how to stay safe.
Officers also talk about signs which indicate a person might be a victim of domestic abuse. Staff are shown how to approach a potential victim, check they are ok, and talk to them about where they can get help.
If you're a business owner or manager in hospitality or retail, don’t miss this opportunity to empower your team with practical tools to stay safe and handle conflict confidently.
We're offering more ways for our communities to stay up to date with our work across Essex.
