A teenage boy has been arrested following an investigation into an assault at a skatepark in Saffron Walden.
Our local policing team has been continuing enquiries following an assault that took place in Peaslands Road at around 7pm on Wednesday 27 May.
It was reported a 15-year-old boy had been punched, suffering a concussion, with verbal threats also made.
The victim received treatment in hospital and was thankfully later discharged.
As a result of our investigation, an arrest was made on Friday 5 June.
A 15-year-old boy, from Saffron Walden, remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of assault.
PC Zak Bredin, officer in the case, said:
“We know this incident has caused concern locally, particularly with footage circulating on social media.
“The behaviour described is completely unacceptable. Everyone should feel safe when spending time in our public spaces, including areas like skateparks which are there for young people to enjoy safely.
“We understand the strength of feeling about these issues and we are working to address this and prevent further incidents.
“I would also urge anyone who witnesses incidents like this, or has information, to report it to us. The information you provide helps us build a clearer picture and take appropriate action.
“We will continue to carry out patrols and engage with the community to provide reassurance and ensure this type of behaviour is dealt with robustly.”
What you know could be the missing puzzle piece we’re looking for.
We know that information held by our communities can help us to keep people safe and catch criminals.
We also know that our communities need to trust that we will listen to them and take action when we need to.
Our Police Intelligence page explains what happens when you tell us something you've seen or heard. It explains what to expect and what we need to know when you give us information.
If you see or hear something that doesn’t seem right or causes you concern, we want you to tell us about it.
