We are increasing our presence during the night-time economy in and around Rayleigh High Street, Rayleigh and West Street, South Street and North Street, Rochford, where women and girls do not feel safe.
Issued 30 June 2026
Reporting to Essex Police and using the essex safety.commonplace platform has helped us to focus our visibility within the right locations.
We have been responding and increasing patrols across the district to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and help people feel safer, especially at night.
Our priority is to listen and make sure women and girls feel safe in public spaces.
Through Project Vigilant, we are deploying both plain clothes and uniformed officers to the areas you want us in, including busy night-time areas. This allows us to spot and step in early if someone’s behaviour causes concern.
Our aim is that this visibility and proactive approach will prevent incidents, supports those who may feel vulnerable and build reassurance for residents and visitors.
We are committed to making our communities safer and more welcoming for everyone.
This remains in our priority and is in progress.
